Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Chamber do?

The Chamber’s primary function is community development. This includes development of industry and trade; and handling civic activities, publicity and public relations for the community. As the “front door” to the community, the Chamber welcomes newcomers, visitors, and others who are making inquiries concerning the county and its municipalities.

How is the Chamber financed?

The Chamber is financed on a voluntary basis and its expense is apportioned among its members, individuals and firms. Business, industry, government, and the professions are represented. There are no governmental funds involved — except membership dues paid to the Chamber. The membership consists of those who have a sincere desire to build a better business climate and a better community in which to live. A membership in the Chamber is actually an investment in the present and the future of Anson County, and a commitment to the enhancement of the overall business climate and the quality of life for Ansonians.

Who are Chamber members?

All who want to improve the community are eligible for membership — whether a firm or an individual in business, industry or the professions, or a church or governmental entity. Only ethical and community-minded individuals, firms, churches, organizations, and governmental entities are invited to join the Chamber of Commerce. An annual membership in the Anson County Chamber of Commerce is a symbol of integrity and a sign of trustworthiness to the business community and in the customer-business relationship. Chamber memberships are an investment in a better Anson County.

How is the Chamber organized?

The Chamber has 12 Directors who are elected by the membership and six Directors who are appointed by the Board. The Board of Directors sets the policy for the Chamber and conducts programs of work in three divisions — Community Services, Marketing and Membership. The Directors serve without pay. The professional staff includes a salaried Executive Director who maintains the normal day-to-day activities of the business office, located in the Scarborough Building at 107-A East Wade Street, Wadesboro, N.C. The telephone number is 704-694-4181; the fax number is 704-694-3830; and the e-mail address is ansonchamber@windstream.net.
